Here's a list of ingredients we don’t use.
Here’s our “NO” List. We promise that you’ll never find any of these "NO" listed ingredients in Soapnut Republic products.
NO Animal Derivatives
We do not use animal products or by-products. We stand firmly against animal cruelty, and all of our products are accredited as Vegan & Cruelty Free by the American Animal Rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
NO Artificial Colours
Artificial colours are dyes made from a variety of synthetic chemicals. They are often added to products to make them look more appealing. Many synthetic colours are associated with skin irritations, and there is further speculation that they may affect our internal systems. We choose not to artificially colour our products, and for this reason the colour of our products may vary slightly between batches.
NO EDTA
EDTA is a chemical used to extend the shelf life of products. We use more natural preservatives when possible, and safe ingredients to do the same thing.
NO GMOS
A GMO, or genetically modified organism, is a plant, animal or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering or transgenic technology. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and virus genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.
NO Harsh Detergents
We use natural soapnut berry extract and other gentle plant derived cleaners. All of our ingredients are completely safe for skin contact, so you can be confident that your family and your pets will not be harmed. Your safety is our paramount concern.
NO Palm Oil
The palm oil industry plays a large role in human induced climate change as palm oil plantations have cleared some of the world’s most precious, carbon capturing forests. Global production and demand for palm oil is increasing rapidly. Plantations are spreading across Asia, Africa and Latin America, which is threatening the habitats of several endangered species including orangutans, elephants, rhinos and tigers.
NO Parabens
Parabens are widely used as preservatives in cosmetics. Parabens have been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues. We choose to use alternative preservative systems at the lowest levels instead to keep our products safe.
NO PEGS
Made from the same chemical that is used to create anti-freeze, this chemical easily penetrates the skin and is linked to damage of the liver, kidneys and brain.
NO Silicones
Silicones are man-made materials that come from non-renewable sources. Instead we use more natural ingredients to help reduce our impact on the environment.
NO Sulphates (SLS & SLES)
Many conventional cleaning brands and some eco brands use SLS and SLES in laundry detergents, cleaning products and personal care products. While these ingredients are biodegradable, we do not consider them to be safe for skin contact. They are known to irritate skin, and SLES can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane which is a probable human carcinogen (according to the US Environmental Protection Agency). Making products that are safe for you and your families is our paramount goal.
NO Synthetic Fragrances
Synthetic fragrances are well-known to irritate skin. Instead we use natural essential oils and natural fragrances.
NO Triethanolamine
Triethanolamine can be contaminated with nitrosamines that are potential carcinogenic substances. When absorbed into the body over long periods of time, triethanolamine can become toxic. Even short periods of exposure can cause allergic reactions.
